New Year's Reunion
Each year our group members meet during the Christmas and New Year period to review the past year and plan for the next. This time we met in Krakow, Poland, where we spent the second weekend in January.
Besides the formalities, delicious Polish pierogi and exchanging Christmas gifts with each other, we also found time for history. We went on the so-called Memory Trail, which consists of three branches of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków. They are:
-
Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory (exhibition about Kraków and the fate of its Polish and Jewish citizens during World War II)
-
Eagle Pharmacy (the only pharmacy functioning in the Kraków Ghetto, run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz)
-
Pomorska Street (former Gestapo)
Thanks to a wonderful guide we learned a lot of interesting facts about wartime Cracow.
During the weekend we also visited the famous Kraków market square, the Jewish district of Kazimierz, and the site of the former KL Płaszów – German labor and concentration camp.
It's been a great start to 2022.
